The "Ancient Zangilan" Scarf: Richness of Colour and Texture

This model was created under the inspiration of the Karabakh carpet weaving school, the Nəlbəkigül carpet.

Although these carpets are popularly known as “Nəlbəkigül”, Shusha carpet weavers call them “Minakhany” or “Minakhani”. The sources mention that this carpet was woven by a woman named Mina, who moved from Zangilan to Shusha in the second half of the 18th century. Carpets woven by her with floral ornaments quickly became widespread not only in our country, but also in the Caucasus, Iran and Turkmenistan.

The composition of the middle part of the "Nəlbəkigül" carpets consists of small and large round plant elements placed on the branches. Despite their symmetrical and sometimes asymmetrical placement and very simple expression, these elements epitomize the beauty and simplicity of Karabakh carpets.
